Introducing the brand new Hologic Dexa Bone Density System with Advanced Body Composition Assessment.
Helping people keep their bones healthy so they can move freely calls for the highest quality images that enable clear identification of fractures that might otherwise go unnoticed. Hologic has taken advanced bone health assessment to new heights with the Horizon DXA family of bone densitometry systems, which feature the latest in technological innovation. In fact, to date, these are the only bone densitometry systems designed to help assess three major health conditions- osteoporosis, obesity and cardiovascular disease. What is Osteoporosis? Osteoporosis is a silent disease and often is detected after a fracture has occurred. It can be treated with simply improving diets and taking calcium supplements or more focused medication to increase calcium deposition in bones. The Hologic Bone Density examination will detect low calcium levels in bone and also very helpful in follow-up response to treatment. When should I start checking? Osteoporosis is found mostly in the more mature patient after menopause. It can however occur in younger people and getting a test done early gives you the chance to increase calcium density levels in bone before and up to the time of menopause. What are the major risk factors for osteopaenia (low bone density) and osteoporosis (increased fracture risk)? AGE - Bone Density begins to decrease naturally after 30 years of age GENDER - Both men and women are prone but osteoporosis is 4 times more prevalent in women FAMILY HISTORY - Osteoporosis more likely if it affects parents and grandparents LOW BODY WEIGHT , SMOKING , ALCOHOL and some MEDICATIONS like steroids all increase the risk of a low bone density.
