· Lump in the Breast or Underarm
A painless lump or thickening in the breast or underarm area is one of the most common early signs.
· Changes in Breast Size or Shape
Unexplained changes in the size, shape, or appearance of one breast can be a warning sign.
· Dimpling or Puckering of the Skin
The skin of the breast may appear dimpled, puckered, or have a texture similar to an orange peel.
· Nipple Changes
Inverted or retracted nipples, or changes in the appearance of the nipple (such as redness, scaling, or thickening), can be a sign.
· Nipple Discharge
Unusual discharge from the nipple, particularly if it’s bloody, should be checked by a Specialized Breast Radiologist.
· Breast Pain or Tenderness
While not always a sign, some women experience persistent pain in a specific area of the breast.
· Changes in Skin Colour
Redness or unusual warmth over the breast can indicate inflammation or other underlying issues.
· Swelling of All or Part of the Breast
Even if a lump is not felt, overall swelling or an area that feels different from the rest of the breast should be noted.
· Swollen Lymph Nodes
Swelling in the lymph nodes under the arm or around the collarbone may occur before a tumour is detected in the breast itself.
*** Remember that breast cancer, almost always, NEVER produces signs or symptoms! ***
Early detection is key to successful treatment.
